If the show continues to average 1.5 to 2 or so million viewers per episode, the show's not going to go away anytime soon. Since it's been renewed for S3, the network is sufficiently satisfied with it and has confidence that it will be a worthwhile long-term investment.
With the season's two-part grand finale just around the corner in late May, the ratings will get a nice boost with the return of Cat Grant, Superman, and the introduction of General Zod.
Unlike CBS, the CW isn't under as much pressure to put up huge ratings numbers to justify having this type of show on its network. This is part of the reason why the series has a safer long-term home with the CW than with CBS.

Going into Sweeps it's nice to come out of break with good numbers.
I've always criticized how CW promotes their shows out of hiatus's...or more like DON'T promote.
Let the fans help you... don't freaking wait the day of the show's return to release sneak peaks and stuff. Give fans a few clips and we'll retweet and repost the heck out of them to build some momentum.
