I read today that Ian Gomez (Snapper Carr) is going to film a pilot for a new CBS comedy that if picked up to series would likely mean no more appearances for him on Supergirl.

This got me to thinking that if Ian leaves and they can't get Calista again is it possible Catco might be abandoned in Season 3?.

I sincerely hope not as I loved Catco in Season 1 where Kara,Winn and James all worked together and we had Cat of course. Hopefully they just find Kara a new boss if Ian does leave the show and we continue to get scenes at Catco.

What do folks think the future might hold for Catco in Season 3?.

One might propose that the Danvers.com that broke this story will have offers of other work. Especially if she puts up a short note "Fired for running this story. Now looking for new job."

I have the impression that the other National City paper was mentioned in season one.

I wonder if they are going to change the introduction you know "to most people I'm a reporter at CatCo..."

She could go to work for another paper, bring in another editor, go totally freelance who knows. I honestly have not missed Catco or Cat as much as I thought I would. There just hasn't been room for either really....and I haven't minded that. I would like to see more of Kara as a reporter/journalist, but I don't necessarily need Catco to see that...

Kel:

Not sure if Nat City has another paper. Kara could try freelnacing for a TV or radio station. Look I did freelance writing couple of years ago for News 12 CT, our local cable news outlet. But my concentration was radio because I love the medium. I am looking for work, any work, but want to get back into the newsroom, preferably at a radio station.

One person who freelances at 1010 WINS one of NYC's TWO all news stations, WCBS 880 the other, is Roger Stern, a veteran of the scene. He did things for News 12 and for WINS. Got to know him. Decent fella. If there was a Snapper for me it was Tom Appleby, News 12's News Director since the network signed on 35 years ago. i found him to be VERY intimidating. I in essence was working for NYC money in Fairfield County CT which is the only part of CT which is part of the NYC market. I am not cut out for big markets. I am a small town kid.

But I never rebelled like Kara did on the job with her citizen journalism thanks to Lena's help. HEY...maybe Kara can work for Lena (crazy I know). Kara violated the rules of a PRIVATE COMPANY and for that she paid the price. And Kel I do also think that CATCO has run its course. Time for Kara (and company) to move on.

He took over once before when Cat was out of town, so it really wasn't weird that he took over CatCo in her absence...he is a Pulitzer Prize Winning photographer that has been in the business for years. It wasn't like his first day in the pilot was his first day ever working for a newspaper. He can write as well as has artistic vision, Snapper would not have had that, only being a writer was not enough. James had what Cat needed and she tapped him for the job. Now, IMO, they should have built his character around that and not Guardian, but that isn't the direction they went unfortunately.

Well that's a bummer. I like Snapper with his Danish eating Stealth Mentor way, he's no Cat but I'll take what I can get.

they could recast snapper, get a new boss, have james actually work at catco. lots of options

Yeah, James taking over Cat's position never did make much sense. His first day at CatCo was the pilot. He was there for only a year! Suddenly he's acting CEO. That makes no sense
They didn't even have to have Cat leave CatCo. They could have just kept her off screen, like Maris on Fraiser, or Vera on Cheers or Howards mom on the Big Bang Theory

And they could've had Eve reach out to people for Cat, ya know like Kara used to do. Maybe they could have Cat yelling off screen. They could probably have Calista use a sound studio in LA to record her lines and add it in post. (They could have even used it as a running gag, with Cat yelling for Eve and Eve mentioning some ridiculous task Cat set for her i.e. I have to check on that shipment of emus Cat wanted Fedexed to her.)

There's a reason (with the exception of Kara's promotion) we never see Cat go to James' or anyone else's office in season 1. Cat doesn't have to do that because she can have Kara/Eve summon anyone she needs to talk with. If we stipulate that Cat's daily meeting is only attended by department heads, then there you go a perfectly logical explanation as to why we haven't seen Cat lately.

But instead they had Cat leave and promoted James so he has less time to spend in the field then when he was department head. Argghhhh

And now we might be losing Snapper too? It feels like he just got here (he is waaay underutilized)
What are they going to do now? Are they going to get Cat's distant cousin Lou Grant to take over for Snapper?

Most pilots don't end up getting picked up, so Mr. Gomez may well still be available next season. If that's the case, I hope they stick with him, unless they can somehow convince Calista to come back on the show a lot more often.
In the absence of either Calista Flockhart or Ian Gomez, I would say bring in a new character to be Kara's boss. They need to keep Kara's day job as part of the show. I am not happy with the way it has been downplayed this season--though I think that's in large part because I really miss Cat, and we aren't seeing as much of Snapper as I had hoped.

Or maybe bring in a new boss who is actually a member of Cat's extended family (a niece or nephew, maybe?). That way they could keep the "Cat Grant connection" intact.
And I'd really like to keep the Cat Grant connection, too, because she's a part of the heritage of DC Comics and the "Superman Family".
