Happy times Supergirl fans, we get to enjoy a double dose of our girl Melissa this week who I must say is looking glamorous in her 1940's style.

:D :) :D :) :D :) :D :) :D :) :D :) :D :) :D :) :D :) :D :)

Supergirl Episode Description:
TERI HATCHER (“DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES,” “LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN”) AND KEVIN SORBO (“HERCULES”) GUEST STAR; DARREN CRISS (“GLEE”) MAKES HIS DEBUT AS THE MUSIC MEISTER – A new villain (guest star Teri Hatcher) comes to National City, putting Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) on high alert. Meanwhile, Winn’s (Jeremy Jordan) girlfriend, Lyra (guest star Tamzin Merchant), gets Winn in trouble with the law. Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) attempts to help Winn but old loyalties get in the way. The Music Meister (Darren Criss) attacks Supergirl. John Medlen directed the episode written by Katie Rose Rogers & Jess Kardos (#216). Original airdate 3/20/2017.

The Flash Episode Description:
DARREN CRISS (“GLEE”) GUEST STARS AS THE MUSIC MEISTER IN THE FLASH AND SUPERGIRL MUSICAL CROSSOVER – Barry (Grant Gustin) and team are surprised when Mon- El (guest star Chris Wood) and Hank Henshaw (guest star David Harewood) arrive on their Earth carrying a comatose Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) who was whammied by the Music Meister (guest star Darren Criss). Unable to wake her up, they turn to Team Flash to save her. However, the Music Meister surprises The Flash and puts him in a similar coma, one that Team Flash can’t cure. Kara and Barry wake up without their powers in an alternate reality where life is like a musical and the only way to escape is by following the script, complete with singing and dancing, to the end. Dermott Downs directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing (#317). Original airdate 3/21/2017.

Loved loved loved this episode. Melissa and Grant's humor, timing, facials, and chemistry were absolutely spot on perfect... For ME.

Finally just an hour of Supergirl for pure entertainment only purposes. No taking on deep issues. It was just simply... Lighthearted and...sunshiny, again.

I Neither Grant Gustin nor Melissa has an especially great voice, but they mostly stayed in tune, the same way I presume Jennifer Lopez stays in tune: the magic of computers.

One might not be a fan of the musical, but not sure one could say Melissa doesn't sing well. Here's a live performance or 2... No enhancements or back tracks...

But funny you brought it up, Rachel, because two of us have been discussing this very thing on the announcements page.

"I fully agree! Melissa's voice is very strong with a great maturity to it. 'Moon River' seemed too high a key plus she sang, as you said, in a character way, very light and ethereal. It was good, but not the singing I am used to from Melissa."

"EXACTLY!! She actually has a POWERHOUSE of a voice... Very full, strong. Last night both songs she was on seemed more in a head voice. Good, nonetheless... Just not her usual power vocals."

Like I said before, Moon River wasn't representative of Melissa's real vocal talent. She sang as Kara, not as herself. If she sang like a pro in the lounge (she is truly a pro), then it'll be inconsistent to Kara and Barry's apprehension being stuck in a musical and are forced to sing while following Meister's script.

Melissa is a trooper - she follows directions, even if her singing reputation could possibly suffer by her forced flat tones and scattered voice modulation in Moon River.

One day if ever this day comes and Melissa takes song requests (which is highly unlikely), I'll ask her to sing Moon River again. :D

Sorry if I sound like a preacher LOL

Wonder how the show will advance the main arc with Cadmus while bringing in the new villains because it sounds like they're here to stay.

I felt sad for poor Mon-El. I guess reinventing yourself isn't a thing that Kryptonians approve of. You only get one chance and if you screw up, you're toast. I thought Queen Teri Hatcher was right, that Kryptonians don't forgive and they actually do look down on Daxamites. Kara looked past that once, maybe she can grow again. Or maybe she should just move to Earth-1 and hang with Barry and friends. Or maybe she could move to Metropolis and hang with Clark. She doesn't need to work at the DEO. She could get a job at the Daily Planet, or could she?

The Musical Crossover was a hoot. I was"t sure about it, but a good book and score with a talented cast impressed me.

That was a little different than I was expecting, I thought there would be more singing but was pleasantly surprised by the action scenes. I probably still prefer the Worlds' Finest episode from Supergirl Season 1 as that had more of Supergirl and The Flash.

Highlights
- The Super Friend song, this was pure fun and my favourite part of the episode, Grant and Melissa were perfect together with Jeremy Jordan rocking it on the piano.
- Moon River, what a lovely rendition by Melissa and she looked stunning

Overall though a fun hour of television. :)

I finally watched the musical crossover and hated it. That makes me in the minority. I'm ok with that. It was a gimmick show and treated the characters as a joke. I'm glad it was on The Flash and not Supergirl, because I think it was that show's "Jump the Shark" moment, which signifies the beginning of the end

For those who don't know, "Jump the Shark" refers to an episode of the old "Happy Days" show where the character Fonzi water skied over a shark while wearing his trademark leather jacket. It was the beginning of the end for that show.

The songs were absolutely forgettable. Neither Grant Gustin nor Melissa has an especially great voice, but they mostly stayed in tune, the same way I presume Jennifer Lopez stays in tune: the magic of computers.

Okay, the episode did resolve the Kara/Mon-El subplot, but even that felt rushed and contrived.

The positives for me were that Kara and Barry make a really cute couple. And Melissa especially looked great in the period (40s?) costumes. Of course, I'm sure she would look great no matter what.

Anyway, an episode best forgotten, in my opinion. If you liked it, great.

Minor quibble. The opening seemed to say she was still working at CatCo, which seems not to be true anymore. However, by rumor she is returning to some newspaper (National City has two, iirc) as Kara Danvers, Ace Reporter.

The musical was excellent. I saw a preview that had things seemingly not in the show itself.

Well...I thought that it was entertaining! I didn't really look into the spoilers and that probably was a good thing so that I could have more suspense and surprises..

I didn't even know that it was primarily going to be 'The Flash'. I have mixed feelings about it. I was kinda hoping to see singing from Mehcad, Chyler but when I found out the episode was gonna be 'The Flash', I wasn't expecting Jeremy either, so that was kinda a pleasant surprise although weird that he was a different character with a NY accent lol (like Newbies). The whole storyline was cheesy but that was to be expected.

I like 'Superfriend' as corny as it is! The lyrics make me laugh, especially about 'Superman'.
