Episode Description:

DC COMICS’ MR. MXYZPTLK HITS NATIONAL CITY – When Mr. Mxyzptlk (guest star Peter Gadiot), a magical imp, shows up on Earth and declares his love for Kara (Melissa Benoist), she tries to let him down easy, thinking him harmless. However, he decides it’s a challenge and starts to wreak havoc on National City. Mon-El (Chris Wood) has seen beings like Mr. Mxyzptlk on Daxam and knows how dangerous they can be. He and Kara argue over how to get rid of Mr. Mxyzptlk, further straining their relationship. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) celebrate their first Valentine’s Day together. Stefan Pleszczynski directed the episode written by Jessica Queller & Sterling Gates (#213). Original airdate 2/20/17.

best scene in a long time: that lovers quarrel in the DEO was comedic brilliance. When Mon-El waved and said "Oh Hi Dana" was genius. In no way was that scripted and him tossing that in didn't fluster Melissa at all, she just rolled with it. And then at the end with her making those faces cuz she ran out of things to say was so funny. That was 2 power houses performing their buts off for us. Loved it! Isn't this how Lois and Clark bickered in the adventures of Lois and Clark pushing each others buttons?

Loved how SG solved the problem. I mean I knew she was going to get him to say it, especially when he needed a code, but I didn't see it simply being typed in and her referencing back to J'onn's statement earlier in the episode.

Winn, now lets keep Lyra away from Livewire else she may go all crazy evil.

After some real heavy episodes this was such a pleasant intermission of an episode before we get back into it.

remember love is love and to accept all, I know it can be hard at times, but just think if Kara or Alex would approve of our collective intolerance and divisiveness, we can be better together.

OMG Yes! I totally agree @Rschick. I don’t know how many times I’ve rewatched that scene alone and every time it has me laughing out loud. It’s easily one of my top 3 favorite scenes of the entire series and easily the most comically brilliant one the show has ever done (IMO). Melissa and Chris nailed this scene. Melissa’s facial expressions were priceless and every time Mon-El stopped Kara as she’s charging down the hall and she was all “OMG, WHAT?!?” that had me in stitches. And Mon-El’s indignation even though he was so wrong was hilarious. He was so wrong he was digging himself a trench as he chased Kara down the hall. hehe. And yep, that moment where mid-argument Mon-El glances over and says “How ya doing Dana” and then keeps rolling right on with his argument with Kara was gold. That and his “Oh, here it is. That’s right - HE’S A DAXAMITE!” LOL. And at the end when they didn’t have anything to say so were just making faces, LOL. I could honestly watch this scene on a loop for hours and never tire of it.

And yes, this was the scene where it hit me - they’re Lois & Clark!

I really liked Kara and Mon-El’s relationship prior to this episode, but all their scenes in this episode were so well done and hit all the right notes - they were funny, charmimg, heartfelt, and WOWZERs their closing scene, talk about hot romance - I’m totally sold on them. I’m all in. (To those who don’t like their pairing, pardon my gushing. I will sincerely try to keep gushing about them to a minimum. I do realize it can be grating.)

SG relies on Winn for all computer-related issues. How did she figure out how to jury-rig the Fortress computer? I don't think she talked to Winn about it because she was afraid that Mxy was eavesdropping.

Well, Kara relies on Winn to handle all human (earth) computer technology. But Kara is perfectly adept with Kryptonian technology. Kryptonian tech is what she was raised with and it’s what she knows. Krypton was a very technologically advanced civilization, so in theory, even though Kara left Krypton when she was 12 years old, her knowledge of math & sciences would very likely be way beyond anyone here on Earth.

The way it’s explained in the comics is that it’s not that Kara is computer-dumb or scientifically inept, it’s that human tech is so primitive to her it’s somewhat akin to handing a modern day person a stone-age implement and expecting them to figure out what it’s used for and how to use it.

Personally, I have a headcanon of a young Kara in a Midvale High science class bored out of her cotton pickin mind. It's like she was being forced to watch Teletubbies everyday for several years.

I saw several tweets from a great number of Sanvers fans quite angry... Saying they felt "lied to" because they felt the producers had "PROMISED" them a Sanvers-centric episode, and didn't deliver. Ummmm...

I've said it several times before, I fear a "The 100" meltdown should the powers that be not deliver the "perfect, long lasting" Sanvers centered story. Some are beginning to express the feeling they are being "pandered" to for ratings.

And here I went to Twitter just wanting Supergirl updates. Thank heavens for our happy community forum.

It was nice to get a Cat Grant mention in this episode (when Kara was telling Alex about the restaurant). It now seems unlikely will see Calista again this season (although they may just surprise us) but it's good they haven't forgotten about her given how important she was to Kara/Supergirl in Season 1 (and the 1st 2 episodes of Season 2).

9.5 out of 10 and 9 of that goes to the Fortress of Solitude scenes, what an amazing sequence. We had action, brilliant VFX (great work the team @ Encore), Supergirl using her wits to defeat Mxy and doing it all on her own and some great acting especially from Melissa but also Peter Gadiot.

I also enjoyed seeing Supergirl use Super Speed to stop the bullets hitting the thieves.

All in all a good time had with this episode.

Kryptonian computer lol and she's Kryptonian. Using that for her would be like me using Windows.

Supergirl's Chris Wood Previews Mon-El vs. Mr. Mxyzptlk: 'He Hates That This Guy Wants Kara to Marry Him', tvline.com article.

Aw yes, this is the article that sent the shippers into a frenzy on Twitter. Their argument now is the writers are weakening Kara because she needs a man, and he thinks he owns her.

Where were they when Barry said that about Iris? Hmmmmm....so silly.

Less comedy moments than I thought it would be, but excellent still. It was an episode without any bad bits, so flawless in that regard. That kiss in the end is very rewarding and long awaited

A fine Valentine's day episode. Apparently Kara has watched one of several Star Trek episodes. She is truly a toned-down Supergirl that a tiny 400 megaton hydrogen bomb might bother her. One infers that Alex has one of these converted warehouse apartments with huge amounts of space. Kara and Mon-El at the end was romantic and acceptable to CW but perhaps not to CBS, I think. Hopefully they did not accidentally knock down the building.

quote today from Jeremy Jordan in Entertainment Weekly

As I teased on Superhero Insider, it sounds like Winn and Lyra are in it for the long haul. After all, Winn does have a tendency to be drawn strong fierce femmes, which comes with its drawbacks. “In our world strong-willed women and women who are powerful in their own ways tend to have other things going on, so we find out that there are secrets,” Jeremy Jordan teases. “But for the first few episodes that we see Winn and Lyra, it’s more about discovering how their relationship fits into this new world that we’re discovering on Supergirl.”

Winn and Lyra was nice for this episode that had a Valentine's Day theme running through it but I now wish they had of waited till Season 3 for a look at a relationship for Winn or even not at all. This now means we will have 3 relationships (Kara/Mon-El, Alex/Maggie and Winn/Lyra) on the show which is about 2 too many IMO as I'm only interested in Kara's because she's who the show is about.

I hope in Season 3 they drop some of the romance/relationships and show us Kara out doing some reporting, I'm sure they can get some interesting story-lines from that. And of course more Supergirl :) .
