Episode Description:

DC COMICS’ MR. MXYZPTLK HITS NATIONAL CITY – When Mr. Mxyzptlk (guest star Peter Gadiot), a magical imp, shows up on Earth and declares his love for Kara (Melissa Benoist), she tries to let him down easy, thinking him harmless. However, he decides it’s a challenge and starts to wreak havoc on National City. Mon-El (Chris Wood) has seen beings like Mr. Mxyzptlk on Daxam and knows how dangerous they can be. He and Kara argue over how to get rid of Mr. Mxyzptlk, further straining their relationship. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) celebrate their first Valentine’s Day together. Stefan Pleszczynski directed the episode written by Jessica Queller & Sterling Gates (#213). Original airdate 2/20/17.

Supergirl's Chris Wood Previews Mon-El vs. Mr. Mxyzptlk: 'He Hates That This Guy Wants Kara to Marry Him', tvline.com article.

Aw yes, this is the article that sent the shippers into a frenzy on Twitter. Their argument now is the writers are weakening Kara because she needs a man, and he thinks he owns her.

Where were they when Barry said that about Iris? Hmmmmm....so silly.

Hypocrisy...that's all it is. And thanks Kel for calling out these keyboard "warriors" who are doing nothing more than projecting. Have they not heard of chivalry, which dates back to the days of King Arthur and Gwinivere? Millennials...GROW UP!

A fine Valentine's day episode. Apparently Kara has watched one of several Star Trek episodes. She is truly a toned-down Supergirl that a tiny 400 megaton hydrogen bomb might bother her.
How do we know she wasn't bluffing when she implied the bomb would kill her?
One infers that Alex has one of these converted warehouse apartments with huge amounts of space.
Typical TV with unrealistic living spaces, either that or the DEO pays really well.
Kara and Mon-El at the end was romantic and acceptable to CW but perhaps not to CBS, I think. Hopefully they did not accidentally knock down the building.
If you watch the other CW/DC they show more than that. LOL forgot the building let's hope Kara's couch holds up.

9.5 out of 10 and 9 of that goes to the Fortress of Solitude scenes, what an amazing sequence. We had action, brilliant VFX (great work the team @ Encore), Supergirl using her wits to defeat Mxy and doing it all on her own and some great acting especially from Melissa but also Peter Gadiot.

I also enjoyed seeing Supergirl use Super Speed to stop the bullets hitting the thieves.

All in all a good time had with this episode.

Yes great episode, i liked all the relationships scenes. I found the real story off the coming out off Maggie's so touching.
Even if Melissa Benoist didn't need it, the Stefan Pleszczynski filming is amazing and make her look beautiful. After Medusa he really accomplish and bring something valuable to the show, as well as the two co-writers of course !
One more please !:D

Mute and block are a wonderful thing on Twitter.....I use them often. ;)

Oh, Supergirl was trending. So I just wanted to see what everyone was chattin up about, and that was the predominate subject. So, it wasn't people in my newsfeeds. I guess I'll just have to stop reading the Supergirl trend when it's going. lol Sad but true.

Some of you may have seen my comment in the news item of this episode about Mehcad's reduced role this season, so far there's been 3 episodes he hasn't even been in which seems unusual to me for a main character.

Anyway here's an article from hypable.com that looks at that.

I thought it was going to be an article about where he has actually been, as in where had Mehcad been? lol

Oh well, nice opinion piece.

best scene in a long time: that lovers quarrel in the DEO was comedic brilliance. When Mon-El waved and said "Oh Hi Dana" was genius. In no way was that scripted and him tossing that in didn't fluster Melissa at all, she just rolled with it. And then at the end with her making those faces cuz she ran out of things to say was so funny. That was 2 power houses performing their buts off for us. Loved it! Isn't this how Lois and Clark bickered in the adventures of Lois and Clark pushing each others buttons?

I wonder how many takes it took before they stopped flubbing their lines? :D They were going pretty rapid fire, there.

SG relies on Winn for all computer-related issues. How did she figure out how to jury-rig the Fortress computer? I don't think she talked to Winn about it because she was afraid that Mxy was eavesdropping.

could Winn's new girlfriend be Lyra

Ooo, interesting. If so, could the show be setting up Legion of Superheroes for next season?

Supergirl, Mon-El, and Dawnstar were all members at some point in the comics if I recall correctly, so...

...Very interesting.

Only problemo I have with the girl Winn was "dating" in this episode were her contacts. They creeped me out and simply reminded me of the cheap contacts my students wear to school during the Halloween season. Bad costuming choice in my opinion :(

quote today from Jeremy Jordan in Entertainment Weekly

As I teased on Superhero Insider, it sounds like Winn and Lyra are in it for the long haul. After all, Winn does have a tendency to be drawn strong fierce femmes, which comes with its drawbacks. “In our world strong-willed women and women who are powerful in their own ways tend to have other things going on, so we find out that there are secrets,” Jeremy Jordan teases. “But for the first few episodes that we see Winn and Lyra, it’s more about discovering how their relationship fits into this new world that we’re discovering on Supergirl.”
