I was once asked why I quit watch Supergirl. This episode showed one of the reasons well. The CW destroyed the most beautiful thing they had in the series, which was the relationship between the Danvers sisters. :( :( :(

You do realize that relationships, family, friends, etc are not always fantastic, sweet, and fun....that is totally unrealistic to think that they would not go through tough times. As they have done time and time again, it comes down to the strength in their love, and if that strength is never tested then how do you really know how strong they are.

But, hey if that is why you stopped watching this series, alright....to each their own. :)

But wait, if you stopped watching the series, how do you know their relationship is ruined? ; )

One of my favorite episodes out of two seasons where acting is concerned. The sister "fights" really DID have me feeling unsettled "being there" to watch. And actually felt a "personal" connection to the sadness, witnessing Kara watching Alex and Eliza from a distance consoling each other as though Kara was left to comfort herself. I do love that the writers didn't tie up all the emotional loose ends, leaving us to have to wait for the sister connection to work itself out.

Good episode, but my biggest pet peeve is how the writers need to sort out the timeline. They keep saying Jeremiah's been gone 15 years (and in one instance, 14). But they said just a few episodes ago, in "The Martian Chronicles", that they were celebrating Kara's 13th "Earth Birthday". 13 years since she crashed on earth.

It's these little things that can make a devoted fan cringe a bit.

But yes, this was a great episode, and I can't wait to see the 2nd part. Mon-El made me cringe, though. I don't mind that he and Kara are together (I think it's temporary, at best). And I don't mind that he was right about Jeremiah. He's the only one who had no emotional attachment to Jeremiah, so it kinda made sense.

What made me cringe is HOW he went about his accusations...in the middle of a "welcome home" party. Come on, dude...use some tact.

I don't think "tact" is taught on Daxam. I have surmised as others have that much of Mon-El's lack of tact, no filter, etc....are from his earlier life. He is still very new to earth, and his upbringing was far different from Kara's or earthlings for that matter. That explains a lot for me.

Okay a few things
1. So J'onn is strictly by the book with official protocol on dealing with work place dating but not so much for a potentially compromised agent, as any agent that has been captured for over a decade should be considered to be.(also what good would a background check do? he's been off the grid for over a decade. That's why he was so hard to find)

2. How the hell did Alex miss Jeremiah's robotic arm!! How is that possible when she examined the hand attached to said arm and said he lost most functionality in it? Did he go back to Cadmus and get the robo arm off-screen after Alex examined him?

3. Am I the only one who thought it was weird that Jeremiah was totally cool being all buddy buddy and hugsy with J'onn when he had taken on the form of Hank? Ya know Hank Henshaw one of his captors for over a decade. That should have been a huge clue to everyone involved that something was up. Seriously, would you be okay hugging someone who looked just like the guy that tortured you for over a decade? Wouldn't you at least ask your shape shifter friend to take on a different, less trauma inducing form?
(Hell they could've had him look like James, if only to remind us of what he looks like, and give Mecad something to do)

4. Why did it take till the end of the episode for J'onn to realize he couldn't read Jeremiah's mind? Isn't that something he should have checked before he was allowed to set foot in the DEO. I mean come on!! J'onn you read Alex's mind frequently enough to figure out she was gay before she did, but when lives are in the balence, you decide not to? It's not like its the first time the enemy infiltrated the DEO by taking on the identity of a Danvers. Did he somehow forget that two weeks ago a White Martian took on Alex's identity? Cadmus made two Metalo's and a Cyborg Superman they could probably make a Jeremiah clone/robot. So why didn't he check?

When Supergirl was saving the train, I thought she was going to connect the track with her body so the train would run over her body, like in Superman the Movie. That would've been a cool nod to the movie.

If you go to the end of this review from A.V.Club there's a tweet from Derek Simon (Supergirl writer) who posted a 12 second video "hello Twitter this is what #Supergirl would look like if @armenvfx didn't exist" about the train save sequence. Pretty amazing stuff and Melissa sells it so well.

Link to Derek Simon's twitter page also included.

I saw that, it was very cool....I love seeing the BTS. Derek Simon is my favorite writer for the show, and he is great on Twitter. :)

he did try to discuss with Kara at the deo but she like others didn't want to hear it and then he got pressed for an opinion.

I'll start this thread off a little differently than usual with a couple of videos of Dean Cain and Helen Slater a.k.a. Superman and Supergirl a.k.a Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers.

Video 1 - Dean Cain as Superman from Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

Video 2 - Helen Slater as Supergirl with some of the beautiful and graceful flying scenes from the movie.

Thanks for posting Kelly, that does look intense.

Illinoisandy "Larry Teng said on his Instagram page they filmed a huge action/stunt scene for this episode."

Looking at the trailer again there's a scene with a truck driving through an explosion at 00:19, I wonder if that's what he's referring to. I've attached the link to his Instagram post.

Anyway all these little teasers keep building the anticipation for what should be an absolutely fantastic episode full of action, drama and some sweet family moments.

This is a total nitpick that (while it doesn't impact my enjoyment of the show) just makes my continuity loving brain twitch, so....what's the deal with characters in the show repeatedly saying that Jeremiah had been held by Cadmus for over 15 years? That doesn't make sense.

Just a few episodes back Kara was celebrating her Earth Birthday and she literally said it had been 13 years since she landed on Earth. She would've never even met Jeremiah if he was being held by Cadmus for over 15 years. It just.....Does. Not. Compute.

I know, I know. A total nitpick, but I wish the writers would get their numbers straight. Pick one and go with it, guys. Please?

I don't remember how it happened this episode: But, I saw a post in tumblr that explained the timing and seemed to say that mainly it is only Jeremiah who is confused. With everyone else, with a bit rounding off the number works as 12-13 (season 1-Season2) and their ages (Alex's and Kara's) work as well.

If we think that Jeremiah is confused (and others are just ignoring it as they have been doing), then yeah the story makes sense.

I really liked how Eliza told Jeremiah that things are different now. It makes sense.

I like that emotional episode.
Everybody was blind but it's probably because it's easier than to face an hurtfull truth. In the beginning at least. Everything as been very well played by the actors.
I also like seeing Kara with her own clothes in the evening, that change from the Kara Danvers disguise.

I gave the episode a 10 just because of the train save but if I take that out I would rate the episode 9 out of 10 and 5 of that deserves to go to Chyler for an absolutely fantastic performance, you really felt Alex's pain in the scene at the end with Maggie.

Other Highlights:
- Really enjoyed the TV news report about Supergirl's morning superheroing exploits and then showing her flying into her apartment.
- Excellent opening action sequence with Supergirl and MM, some great flying shots and
Supergirl using her super-strength to stop the trailer was awesome.
- Dean Cain, always good to see him on the show and I thought he was really good.
- Dean and Helen, was happy they got to share a scene together and it was right to have Eliza deciding to re-start again after a long time apart from Jeremiah. Maybe in Season 3 that could be a interesting little story-line of Eliza and Jeremiah re-starting their marriage (that's assuming Jeremiah is returned to normal and his family of course).
- Blake Neely, some more awesome music from him.
- Winn and Mon-El bro moments

A thoroughly enjoyable episode.

See guys, I do understand that relationships have their ups and downs. But tell me this, how do you get back from telling someone, an adopted sibling at that, that she has to prove herself to be counted as one of the family? Do folks who have grown up from the get go as one family and share genes have to go through this too? Prove yourself a Danvers or else?

We have a great many movies in Hindi (Bollywood) about adopted relationships. A line from one of these comes to mind, paraphrased here. "You can't know the pain of being alone and without anyone, and then being accepted into a family and then being dropped the first time you make a mistake or do not follow the family consensus."

Just an apology wouldn't count here. And if the show lets Kara accept Alex back just with that, then they would be as wrong as Kara doing so in the case of Mon El with just an apology.

At that end scene there, I don't think Kara was mourning Jeremiah. Or, not just that. It was Alex's rejection at the end, even after being proved wrong, that must have hurt like hell.

Also, considering Eliza is a scientist too (and this show seems to think a geneticist is a doctor, and a planetary physicist is just the same as particle physicist so why not combine all other scientists too) and the fact that she knows Jeremiah so well and is not blinded by hero worship as Alex, it would have worked better for the story if Eliza had noticed that something was off with Jeremiah. Or, J'onn considering he is the mind reader; has had experiences with white Martians; and have been leading the DEO for so long. Mon El is not a scientist; is not familiar with Jeremiah. So, he starts off as suspicious of his girlfriend's foster father seems rather weird.

Right now, both J'onn and Alex come off as incompetent (after all, Alex checked Jeremiah's arm and didn't see the cybernetics connection) and should be asked to step down from the DEO.
