As far as the years thing, I will go with what was said in this episode....almost 14 years....why? because the 2 writers of this episode have been with the series from the start. We past 2 earth birthdays with Kara, but only saw the celebration of 1....so, 12+2 = 14. ;) Hopefully the others writers take note..

Gave this episode a 9/10....well written by 2 of my fav writers from season 1. This episode made me very uncomfortable, which is a good thing, that means the acting was on point enough to make me fidget in the tough scene.

Besides the episode "Changes" I think this was by far one of Chyler's best episodes even though I wanted to punch her in the nose...lol

I haven't said "oh $&*(" this many times in an episode in a long time.

I loved the action, but what did it for me was the enormously tense scenes in this episode. I found myself holding my breath a few times.

The only thing that was sort of a problem for me, and took it down from a 10 to a 9 was the scene in the woods where Kara hears the train and turns for a moment. She has done that now a few times, BIG TIME last week, when she turns her back on Metallo to face Dr. Luthor and at that time I thought.....are you crazy, turn around, the main threat is behind you. But I didn't count off, now that it has happened again, the threat being in front of her and she turns her back on it was a problem for me. But, not a huge one.

So a solid 9 out of 10, really enjoyed this episode, one of my top 5 for the 2 seasons thus far.

It will actually be nice to have that week off after 2 very, very tense episodes. Kind of like the week we had off in between "Falling" and the crossover last season.

One of my favorite episodes out of two seasons where acting is concerned. The sister "fights" really DID have me feeling unsettled "being there" to watch. And actually felt a "personal" connection to the sadness, witnessing Kara watching Alex and Eliza from a distance consoling each other as though Kara was left to comfort herself. I do love that the writers didn't tie up all the emotional loose ends, leaving us to have to wait for the sister connection to work itself out.

When Supergirl was saving the train, I thought she was going to connect the track with her body so the train would run over her body, like in Superman the Movie. That would've been a cool nod to the movie.

That actually would've been pretty cool to see, Supergirl has paid homage to Richard Donner's excellent Superman The Movie quite often through it's run. It was good they put their own spin on it though as it was a totally awesome display of Superheroics, now in my Top 3 of Superheroics on this show so far along with the Missile Chase from 'Solitude' and the lifting of Fort Rozz into space from 'Better Angels'.

I gave the episode a 10 just because of the train save but if I take that out I would rate the episode 9 out of 10 and 5 of that deserves to go to Chyler for an absolutely fantastic performance, you really felt Alex's pain in the scene at the end with Maggie.

Other Highlights:
- Really enjoyed the TV news report about Supergirl's morning superheroing exploits and then showing her flying into her apartment.
- Excellent opening action sequence with Supergirl and MM, some great flying shots and
Supergirl using her super-strength to stop the trailer was awesome.
- Dean Cain, always good to see him on the show and I thought he was really good.
- Dean and Helen, was happy they got to share a scene together and it was right to have Eliza deciding to re-start again after a long time apart from Jeremiah. Maybe in Season 3 that could be a interesting little story-line of Eliza and Jeremiah re-starting their marriage (that's assuming Jeremiah is returned to normal and his family of course).
- Blake Neely, some more awesome music from him.
- Winn and Mon-El bro moments

A thoroughly enjoyable episode.

See guys, I do understand that relationships have their ups and downs. But tell me this, how do you get back from telling someone, an adopted sibling at that, that she has to prove herself to be counted as one of the family? Do folks who have grown up from the get go as one family and share genes have to go through this too? Prove yourself a Danvers or else?

We have a great many movies in Hindi (Bollywood) about adopted relationships. A line from one of these comes to mind, paraphrased here. "You can't know the pain of being alone and without anyone, and then being accepted into a family and then being dropped the first time you make a mistake or do not follow the family consensus."

Just an apology wouldn't count here. And if the show lets Kara accept Alex back just with that, then they would be as wrong as Kara doing so in the case of Mon El with just an apology.

At that end scene there, I don't think Kara was mourning Jeremiah. Or, not just that. It was Alex's rejection at the end, even after being proved wrong, that must have hurt like hell.

Also, considering Eliza is a scientist too (and this show seems to think a geneticist is a doctor, and a planetary physicist is just the same as particle physicist so why not combine all other scientists too) and the fact that she knows Jeremiah so well and is not blinded by hero worship as Alex, it would have worked better for the story if Eliza had noticed that something was off with Jeremiah. Or, J'onn considering he is the mind reader; has had experiences with white Martians; and have been leading the DEO for so long. Mon El is not a scientist; is not familiar with Jeremiah. So, he starts off as suspicious of his girlfriend's foster father seems rather weird.

Right now, both J'onn and Alex come off as incompetent (after all, Alex checked Jeremiah's arm and didn't see the cybernetics connection) and should be asked to step down from the DEO.

Good episode, but my biggest pet peeve is how the writers need to sort out the timeline. They keep saying Jeremiah's been gone 15 years (and in one instance, 14). But they said just a few episodes ago, in "The Martian Chronicles", that they were celebrating Kara's 13th "Earth Birthday". 13 years since she crashed on earth.

It's these little things that can make a devoted fan cringe a bit.

But yes, this was a great episode, and I can't wait to see the 2nd part. Mon-El made me cringe, though. I don't mind that he and Kara are together (I think it's temporary, at best). And I don't mind that he was right about Jeremiah. He's the only one who had no emotional attachment to Jeremiah, so it kinda made sense.

What made me cringe is HOW he went about his accusations...in the middle of a "welcome home" party. Come on, dude...use some tact.

I really did enjoy this episode, acting and dialogue wise...but disappointed how it panned out with Jeremiah. I knew something was up, but I was hoping I was wrong! I still think there's a twist involved and there's more to the story than Kara and Alex know, and if they knew I guess they would understand Jeremiahs motives more..:/
But darn it, the family dinner was so heart felt...and hearing Jeremiah talk about not proud of what he's done in the past, seeing him hug jonn, thanking him for protecting his daughters, the claps at the deo...not to mention didn't jonn talk bout having psych evaluation and checkup before joining the deo :/? It does seem strange that they didn’t pick up his arm was superficial earlier on as well. But I knew it was way too convienent that nothing would be up with Jeremiah..
Part if me actually wanted to be shocked like if Alex actually pulled the trigger, not killed him but the writers could've tricked us into thinking he was, although I guess he would he invulnerable to it? But to see him knocked out and the deo could check out what cadmus did to him exactly. Though it might not be Jeremiah as in the one they knew...I can't help but wonder it was kinda odd how he addressed jonn thank you friend...rather than name but maybe I'm paranoid lol

If you go to the end of this review from A.V.Club there's a tweet from Derek Simon (Supergirl writer) who posted a 12 second video "hello Twitter this is what #Supergirl would look like if @armenvfx didn't exist" about the train save sequence. Pretty amazing stuff and Melissa sells it so well.

Link to Derek Simon's twitter page also included.

I don't think "tact" is taught on Daxam. I have surmised as others have that much of Mon-El's lack of tact, no filter, etc....are from his earlier life. He is still very new to earth, and his upbringing was far different from Kara's or earthlings for that matter. That explains a lot for me.

he did try to discuss with Kara at the deo but she like others didn't want to hear it and then he got pressed for an opinion.

Yep. If you watch that scene, Mon-El was keeping quiet about his concerns all during the toast. It wasn't until J'onn said they were going to let Jeremiah back in with no questions asked that Mon-El whispered his gobsmacked disbelief quietly to Kara and Kara in return demanded that Mon-El "say something nice to him - now" then it all started going pear-shaped.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think Kara was a wee bit out of line demanding that Mon-El say something nice to Jeremiah when she knew Mon-El had reservations about him.

Yes, I think Mon-El should've towed the company line at that moment, bitten his tongue regarding his reservations and instead should've waited to reiterate his concerns to J'onn and Kara after the family get together. He screwed that up. But, with that said, I don't think it's right that Kara demanded that he express something he didn't believe and she knew that. I'm not trying to cast aspersions on Kara here either, but just pointing out that they all weren't using their best judgement in this situation.

Of course, YMMV.

TV Fanatic: Supergirl Round Table: Is Jeremiah a Goner?.

Interesting that they think Jeremiah will sacrifice himself but I certainly hope not, I definitely want Jeremiah returned to his family.
